Seeking female mentor/companion for a twenty six year old female who experiences
cerebral palsy and a non-verbal learning disability. Ideal position for college students
specifically nursing, PT or OT majors who need direct care experience. Slo working
professionals who need part-time and a flexible schedule. Prefer self-starters with
patient demeanor, moral fortitude or Christian faith who can accept or seek direction,
when appropriate. First-hand experience with people with disabilities strongly desired
but not required.

Philosophical Orientation
• View client’s behavior as an attempt to communicate, rather than requiring immediate
• Support ongoing development of self-advocacy skills, always with emphasis on
achieving a self-determined life
• Implement positive behavioral support approaches in problem-solving
Mandatory Job Responsibilities
• Report to work on time, as scheduled, Monday thru Friday
• Arrange for coverage when unable to work (unless emergency situation interferes
with coming to work)
• Promote in home and community independence
• Provide transportation (using client’s vehicle) to and from appointments and work
• Help client structure work and leisure time, providing assistance as needed

• Support interactions with a variety of people in the community when needed
• Give verbal reminders to client to make her own appointments (dentist, haircut,
doctor, possible wheelchair repair, Tri Met Lift bus etc.)
• Meal preparation or teaching client how to prepare simple meals including cleaning
• Oversee vitamin/supplement intake, water consumption, personal care including
shaving her legs, managing acne, teeth brushing, general grooming for looking
presentable and assistance with laundry (including sheets and towels)
• Some shower assistance with entering/exiting, towel drying and helping with
• Assistance needed sometimes with getting shoes on
• Help identify life skills that will promote increased independence and support
opportunities to implement them in the community (i.e. grocery shopping)
• Encouragement to organize and structure client’s day, using her calendar and phone
Additional Preferred Responsibilities
• Read related information regarding cerebral palsy and non-verbal learning disability
• Brainstorm ways in which independence can be increased
• Refer all financial questions to parents. We are helping her learn the importance of
keeping financial information private and sticking to a budget.
• Minimum three month commitment, with a check in after the first month. At the end of
the three month period a review will take place with client and her mom to check in

and see if things are working out. If an agreement is reached, then a commitment for
an additional nine months would be required totaling a one year commitment.
• Driver’s license, auto insurance and good driving record
• Be willing to go through a background check
• Physically fit to manage some transfers of Emily (primarily in/out of shower)
• Personal and professional references

• Hours: Monday through Friday, 7am to 9am and/or 1pm to 3pm - possibility of job-
share. Client has part-time job M-F 9am to 1pm.

• Hourly pay: $19/ hour
